Charity Partners Announced for Legends Event in Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., July 15, 2014 – Three charities have been announced for the Legends Tour’s Walgreens Charity Classic, set for Nov. 6-9. The two-day professional golf tournament will raise funds for the Dan Marino Foundation (DMF), Achievement Centers for Children & Families (ACCF), and for Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (ADVA).

Presented by The Seagate Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla., the event will showcase 48 former LPGA Tour professionals now playing on The Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA. Tournament rounds will be contested on Saturday, Nov. 8, and Sunday, Nov. 9.

“We are excited to bring world-class golf to Delray Beach and to help these great charities in doing so,” said Roger Lemke, district manager for Walgreens. “All ticket proceeds will support our charity partners.”

Ticket sales for the tournament will start Sept. 15 at Walgreens stores. Golf fans may save $5 off gate pricing by purchasing tickets in advance at Walgreens.

Donations for the charity partners will be accepted at the gate during both rounds of the tournament. Information and representatives from each charity will be on site to increase awareness of the programs and services provided by each charity.

For more than 22 years, DMF has served individuals with disabilities in South Florida through therapies, research, education and employment. DMF has also raised more than $47 million to create unique and impactful initiatives in the community.

“The Dan Marino Foundation shares a common pride with Walgreens in helping young people with special needs fulfill their dreams,” said Mary Partin, CEO of the DMF. “We are so appreciative of their including us as a beneficiary of this exciting LPGA Legends Tour event.”

ACCF is a community-based organization dedicated to serving low-income children and families. ACCF’s mission is to ensure school readiness, provide skill-building opportunities, promote academic achievement and support healthy lifestyles.

“For the Achievement Centers, it is quite an honor to be one of the charity partners with the LPGA for this prestigious golf tournament,” said CEO Stephanie Seibel. “We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity afforded not only to the greater Delray Beach area through this fantastic event, but to our agency which serves our area’s most vulnerable community members.”

AVDA operates through a state-certified domestic violence center that offers a comprehensive array of services for all victims of domestic violence including: a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency and transitional housing, advocacy, counseling and support to help nurture violence-free and self-sufficient lives.

“We work throughout the community to educate and engage people of all ages in our commitment to prevent violence,” said AVDA President and CEO Pam O’Brien. “AVDA is grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness about domestic abuse.”

The Legends Tour roster boasts LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members, such as Nancy Lopez, Pat Bradley and Beth Daniel, as well as former LPGA Tour standouts Rosie Jones, Jan Stephenson and Meg Mallon.

Five-time Legends Tour champion Nancy Scranton of St. Augustine, Fla., won the 2013 Walgreens Charity Championship at The Villages and plans to defend her title at Seagate in November.

Following Sunday’s final round, Lemke and his Walgreens team will present each charity with a check on the 18th green representing funds raised by the event.
