Thanks to a string of solid performances in May, Danielle Kang has bounced back from an injury-riddled 2016 season and finds herself in contention for a spot on Team USA for the 2017 Solheim Cup.
The 24-year-old San Francisco native currently ranks eleventh in the LPGA Team USA point rankings with 180 points. She's carded three top-10 finishes in LPGA tournaments this season. Kang tied for fourth-place in the Honda LPGA Thailand in February. On April 12, she finished in a tie for ninth in the LOTTE Championship Presented by Hershey and notched a fourth-place tie at the Kingsmill Championship Presented by JTBC on May 18.
Her performance this year comes on the heels of a disappointing 2016 season when she was sidelined for six weeks during May and June with a wrist injury, bulging disks and an eye surgery. Still, she notched three top 10s.
“My goal was to get back out on the golf course as soon as possible,” Kang told LPGA.com. "These injuries should’ve had me sit out the rest of the season, however, my awesome team helped me get back on the course in just six weeks."
Kang excels in match play formats. She won both the 2011 and 2012 U.S. Amateur Championships before turning pro in August 2012. She also finished 17th in the 2017 Lorena Ochoa Match Play Presented by Aeromexico and Delta, losing in the quarterfinals to eventual tournament winner Sei Young Kim of South Korea.
