Two short Par 3s may be among the toughest holes at the Solheim Cup. The deceptive eighth hole will play anywhere from 130 to 180 yards. The front half of the 35-yard deep green that slopes from left to right is hidden from view by the lip of a front bunker. Des Moines Golf and Country Club head Golf Pro Scott Howe says a prevailing left to right wind will make it tougher for the tee shot to hold the green.
Hole 17 may be even tougher. From the tee box the 150 to 170 yard hole looks relatively benign. However, the green is only 14 yards wide, falls away from the player to the left and is guarded by deep bunkers on both the right and left sides. Head golf pro Scott Howe said most players will aim for the right side of the narrow green and let the ball work its way down the slope toward the hole. "It's a narrow target from a pretty reasonable distance," Howe said. "I think par will win some holes here."
