Last week, the LPGA Tour kicked off the #WeClapForeYou campaign, which recognizes the exceptional acts of commitment, support and kindness in today’s world. As the Toledo community comes together in these difficult times, the 2021 Solheim Cup would like to thank everyone on the front lines of fighting this virus, as well as the supporters and partners who continue to celebrate women’s golf and the competition coming to Inverness Club in 2021.
“In our sport, the golf clap is a universal sign of respect and appreciation. It’s a beautiful sound that we can’t wait to hear,” said Roberta Bowman, the LPGA’s chief brand and communications officer, in an column posted to LPGA.com. “Until then, we wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you. To everyone on the front lines, to the everyday heroes in our midst, and to our sponsors who have stood with us during this difficult time, on behalf of all of us at the LPGA, #WeClapForeYou.”
“The concept of family is very important to the Solheim Cup team, and the ongoing support of our fans, supporters and friends here in Toledo is a true example of what it means to be a family,” added Becky Newell, tournament director for the 2021 Solheim Cup. “While we prepare for next September, we do that with our community of first responders, healthcare professionals, teachers and others on the front lines firmly in our hearts and minds. We also greatly appreciate the partners who continue to support our event. Team USA, the Solheim Cup and the LPGA thank all of you. Again, #WeClapForeYou.”
The Solheim Cup, a biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play competition featuring the best female golfers in the world, is on track to be held at Inverness Club from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6, 2021. USA Captain Pat Hurst and European Captain Catriona Matthew will lead 24 of the world’s best female players as they represent their countries across three days of world-class competition. The USA will look to avenge its 2019 loss in Scotland at the hands of the Europeans, and the local community will experience a week unlike any other in the greater Toledo area.
