On a warm and sunny Wednesday in August, Team USA Captain Juli Inkster introduced Iowa and the world to her three assistant captains for 2017. Though it was big news, the names were familiar. Pat Hurst, Wendy Ward and Nancy Lopez were greeted by cheers and applause given their successful performance at the 2015 Solheim Cup. The trio of assistant captains helped Inkster lead Team USA to a comeback victory in Germany. Now the team is back together and ready to do it again in 2017!
After a rousing rally in front of hundreds of golf fans in downtown Des Moines, the four captains signed autographs and posed for photos alongside veteran Solheim Cup team members Morgan Pressel and Brittany Lincicome. While mingling with the LPGA pros, Iowa Solheim Cup supporters clad in red, white and blue passed their lunch hour with patriotic music, putt-putt and free food from area food trucks. It was a celebration to remember.
