After a historic run in 2015 that included achieving the Career Grand Slam, Inbee Park has had a difficult start to the 2016 season.
The world No.2 withdrew from the season opening Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic due to a back injury and for months has battled an ongoing left thumb injury that forced her to withdraw from multiple events, including last week’s Kingsmill Championship. Although Park has committed to playing this week’s LPGA Volvik Championship, she continues to play through pain that is affecting both her swing and plans for this season.
Park released the following statement on Tuesday:
"Due to the pain still stemming from my left thumb certain movements in
my swing are currently restricted. Even though my Physio has assured that
playing will not cause any further damage I know my body is naturally
trying to protect that area when I make certain swing movements. My plan
right now is to do my best to get through this week and the KPMG Women's
PGA In two weeks the before I start seeking further Medical Advice"
Park is just two events removed from meeting the 10-event minimum in what is her 10th season on Tour, which would earn her qualification for the LPGA Hall of Fame. This week would mark the ninth start of the season for Park, with her 10th start expected at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June.
Park has two top-10 finishes this season, including a season best runner-up finish at the Kia Classic.
