The Solheim Cup is showing its support of the broader Des Moines metro through the new Community Art Project. For this project 18 larger-than-life golf balls have been colorfully decorated by 17 Iowa artists, each sponsored by a Central Iowa company or organization. The golf balls are stunning; three feet in diameter and boasting vibrant colors.
Starting in June you can see each golf ball on display along the Art Route in downtown Des Moines and on the West Des Moines Art Pocket. Then in August, the artful orbs will be moved to Des Moines Golf and Country Club in time to decorate the grounds of the 2017 Solheim Cup.
This project was designed to showcase local businesses and support the already vibrant public art scene in the Greater Des Moines area. The beneficiary of this project is Art Route Des Moines – a 6.6 mile painted trail connecting 87 pieces of public art throughout downtown Des Moines.
